A collection of quirky poems. That does not always make sense or rhyme, but most usually will bring a smile to your face. Also quirky and funny drawings make this a fun and funny book over the typical poetry. - AP

With a Whoop and a Holler

Pub. Date: April 1998
Age Range: 8 to 12

This book has tales from Louisiana and other parts of what is called the Deep South. It contains poems and tales that teach a lesson. The poems are just short little stanzas that rhyme. The stories are a little longer. They have animals that teach each other a lesson, or people that teach each other a lesson. The stories and poems are written in a kind of southern way of speaking. There are different parts in the book, and before each part there is an explanation of the part of the country where the tales have come from. This is a fun book with fun pictures and really fun stories. - JH
